Kodehort Ltd (“Kodehort”, “we”, “us”), a company registered in England and Wales, is the controller of the personal data described here. We keep as little as selling you a Licence needs.
The app
Spacetile never contacts us to check your Licence. It verifies your Licence key on your Mac, and it reads the list of revoked Licences from inside the app itself, where each release carries it. Using Spacetile, during the Trial or with a Licence, sends us nothing about you, your Mac or how you use it.
Spacetile keeps its settings and profiles in ~/.config/spacetile, and your Licence key and the date your Trial started in your Mac’s Keychain. Window previews, if you turn them on, stay on your Mac.
To check for updates, Spacetile downloads a list of releases from updates.spacetile.app. Like any web request, this reveals your IP address and the app’s version. It carries no Licence key, email address or other detail about you, and we don’t use it to identify you. A copy you built yourself only checks when you choose Check for Updates.
What we keep when you buy
Our licence service keeps a record of each Licence:
- the email address the Licence was issued to;
- its Licence ID, update window end and the date we created it;
- whether it was bought or given, with Stripe’s identifiers for the order, or our note on why we gave it; and
- the date we revoked it, if we did.
When a Licence is bought, renewed or refunded, the licence service also tells PostHog: the Licence ID, which you bought, the price and currency, and the reference the website added to your checkout, if any (see The website). It never sends your email address or name.
We use this record to email your Licence key, to extend your Licence when you renew, to send your keys again through Find my Licence, and to revoke a Licence after a refund or a leak. The legal basis is performing our contract with you. For a Licence we gave you without payment, it is our legitimate interest in delivering it.
We keep a Licence’s record for as long as the Licence exists, and afterwards for as long as tax and accounting law require.
Payments
Stripe sells Licences and Renewals as merchant of record. It collects your name, payment details and billing address, and handles them under Stripe’s privacy policy. We never see your card details. Stripe tells us your email address and the order’s identifiers so we can issue your Licence.
Find my Licence
When you ask Find my Licence for your keys, we look up the address you enter and email any active keys to it. If the address has a Licence, we note when we emailed it, so the page can’t be used to flood an inbox, and delete that note after a day. For any other address we keep nothing.
The website
spacetile.app sets no cookies and runs no advertising. Your choice of light or dark appearance stays in your browser’s local storage. Our hosting provider processes the IP address of every request in order to serve the site.
To learn which pages lead people to download or buy Spacetile, the site tells PostHog which pages you view and which links you click, through relay.spacetile.app, which passes them on to PostHog. It stores nothing on your device to do this. PostHog tells one visit from another by a code it works out from your IP address, your browser’s description of itself and a value that changes every day, so it can’t recognise you from one day to the next. It then discards your IP address rather than keeping it. When you click a Buy button, the site adds a random reference to the checkout and tells PostHog the same reference, so we can count how many visits end in a purchase without knowing who made them.
The legal basis is our legitimate interest in understanding how people find and buy Spacetile. You can object by emailing us.
Who processes data for us
- Stripe takes payments as merchant of record.
- Resend sends the emails that carry Licence keys.
- Cloudflare hosts the website, the update feed and the licence service, and stores Licence records.
- PostHog keeps the website’s analytics and the record of purchases described above, in the EU.
Some of them process data outside the UK. Where they do, they use safeguards the UK GDPR recognises, such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum.
Your rights
Under the UK GDPR you can ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, and ask us to correct it, delete it, restrict how we use it, or send it to you or someone else in a portable form. You can object to processing based on our legitimate interests. Deleting your Licence record means we can no longer send your keys again or extend your Licence.
Email support@spacetile.app to use any of these rights. If you’re unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.
Changes
We’ll update this page if what we keep or why changes, and show the date of the last change at the top.
